Historic concert and civic hall located in Tsurumai Park, Showa-ku, Nagoya. Opened on 10 October 1930 to commemorate the marriage of Emperor Showa (Hirohito), it was one of the largest auditoriums in Japan at the time with 3,000 seats. The reinforced-concrete building survived World War II air raids and Allied requisition, and remains one of Nagoya’s best-preserved examples of early Showa-period public architecture, with a symmetrical facade of tall arched windows and art deco motifs. After a major renovation in 2018-2019, the Main Hall now seats 2,000 with historically sensitive restored interiors. A 300-seat Small Hall serves lectures and community events. The venue has hosted everything from Nagoya Philharmonic concerts and boxing title fights to international rock tours. A 3-minute walk from Tsurumai Station (JR Chuo Line and Tsurumai Subway Line).
